Call to book your audition or simply arrive early on the audition nights at GUNNAR INTERNATIONAL, 141 Wellham Rd (at Big Bay Point Rd), 2nd Floor

Monday, Nov 23rd and Thursday, Nov 26th starting at 7:00 p.m.

For auditions you will need to do something for us: either an acting monolog, or a musical number (your choice) or a dance number. We will have a C.D. player available, but if you need an accompanist and/or a keyboard, you will need to telephone Robert to make that kind of arrangement. Everyone who is selected as a singer automatically becomes part of the Chorus. Individuals then will be selected from the Chorus to do individual numbers. To arrange an audition, you just have to show up on one of the audition evenings.

As there are 12 performances in March and two shows on both Saturdays, we are going to double-cast all leading roles, and these roles will, whenever possible, be equally shared.

Everyone who does an audition, will be informed of the results of that audition on Saturday, November 28th, by telephone. If you accept a part in the show, a script will be emailed to you. You, then, will attend the first rehearsal on Monday, November 30th, at 7: 00 p.m. (place to be determined) Everyone attending the first rehearsal must have read the script and be familiar with his/her role in the production.

Synopsis

A show is being prepared to show in a barn, but nothing runs smoothly.  At the rise of the show the director is having a fit because the show is going to open the next day and he doesn’t think they are ready.  He argues with the cast then exits convince that it will be a disaster.  Only four young people remain behind to discuss the events they have witnessed.  Two of the young people, Biff & Melody, have been brought into the production to replace a couple who have just walked out because of the Director’s antics.  Now, Biff & Melody, are wondering if they also should quit.

A second young couple, Penny & Sammy, try to get them to stay with the show.   They do this by conjuring up a Grande Dame of the theatre, a DIVA, a ghost from years ago, who takes them on a tour of the musical theatre from 1905 to 1955.  During their journey, they are handed off to Carnie Bill, also a ghost – a show business type from years ago.  He escorts them through various eras in time where they encounter many legendary performers such as Al Jolson, Fanny Brice and Marie Dressler.

After a trip through two world wars, they finish their travels in 1955 where the entire cast reassembles and sings There’s No Business Like Show Business.  Altogether we are presenting 25 numbers, and we hope that you enjoy this nostalgic trip through musical time.
